Art Quote: Edgar Degas

"There is a kind of success that is indistinguishable from panic."   Edgar Degas

I came across this quote by Degas and remembering my painting "A day on the beach"... thinking back when I was working on that painting, it was not going well, I was at a loss, and in frustration I quickly slapped some paints on the canvas trying to 'rescue' the painting. I was about to give up trying... I took a few steps back and then I saw it... there was nothing else I wanted to add to it... done!  A sense of relief and delight!        "success from panic"...?

Regarding a blank canvas

"I don't go into the studio with the idea of 'saying' something.  What I do is face the blank canvas and put a few arbitrary marks on it that start me on some sort of dialogue."

Richard Diebenkorn

"Three Delights" Linocut

It was fun and relaxing working on this old block again yesterday, just a little further to go before it is finished.  I am looking forward to more linoleum cut and continue doing more printmaking.
